It is indeed exciting times in the Lake Geneva Schools with two of our excellent elementary schools receiving recognition and plaudits on both the state and national level while the focus of the districts remain centered on our Strategic Plan. Star Center School has been recognized nationally as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence! A team of school representatives was sent to Washington, D.C. to receive this prestigious award. There are only eight schools in Wisconsin that received this prestigious award. We are all extremely proud of the excellent work of our students, their parents, staff and administration at Star Center. You make our entire community proud of your accomplishments!

Saturday, December 7 marks an early sighting of Santa Claus in the Badger High School Commons. The Music Department fundraiser runs from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Plenty of music and youth activities surround the family breakfast, an annual event at the school. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. dozens of vendors will be set up at Badger again this year for the 4th Annual Badger DECA Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair. Enter on the East Side, door J, and head into the Sports Center. FREE Admission, Raffles and more. At 1 pm., the Lake Geneva Middle School Fiddle Club & Jazz Choir will perform at the Lake Geneva Museum, 255 Mill St, Lake Geneva. Community members can enjoy classic Christmas carols as well as fiddle and jazz tunes.

The snowflakes will be falling, and the jingle bells will soon be ringing. That must mean it is time for the annual Badger FFA Holiday Sale!

Star Center Elementary School was recognized today by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos as one of 362 schools in the nation and one of eight schools from Wisconsin as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing National Blue Ribbon School for 2019. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

Badger and the Lake Geneva Jt. #1 Schools will be offering e-registration again this summer. E-registration is a convenient approach to student registration which minimizes most of the paperwork collected at the August registration/open house events held at each of the schools. E-registration streamlines such things as picking up calendars, schedules, paying fees, filling out last-minute forms, etc. If you do not have a computer, each school will provide times when you may use theirs. Watch for more information on this coming soon. If you are already familiar with our PowerSchool program, you will log in the same way to begin the e-registration process – please see the PowerSchool section below for important reminders. If you are using PowerSchool for the first time, instructions are provided below. Please note that parent/student logins will be disabled all summer until the e-registration window opens August 1st.

Erin Zigler has been named Eastview Elementary School Principal by the Lake Geneva Jt. #1 Board of Education. “I am pleased and excited to announce the hiring of Mrs. Erin Zigler as Principal at Eastview Elementary,” said Dr. Jim Gottinger, Superintendent. Mrs. Zigler has twenty-one years of experience in education with the last six serving in the role as Principal at Randall School in Twin Lakes, WI. She replaces Tami Martin who resigned.

At their July meetings, the Badger High School and Lake Geneva Jt. #1 School Boards approved the resignations of two administrators, Russ Tronsen, Principal at Badger High School and Tami Martin, Principal at Eastview Elementary School. Both Tronsen and Martin taught in the districts prior to their appointments as principal. Dr. James Gottinger, District Administrator said Jennifer Straus, currently Badger’s Associate Principal, has been named Interim Principal for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Lake Geneva Joint #1 and Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union High School districts celebrated the 2019 teachers and support staff of the year at a banquet held May 29 at Hawk’s View Golf Club. Retirees were also recognized for their years of service. Congratulations to the following individuals.

A special night of jazz featuring musicians from Badger, Lake Geneva Middle School, Brookwood Middle School and Woods School will be presented on Wednesday, May 29th in the Badger High School Auditorium. The concert will feature a piece written and arranged just for this evening by Dean Sorenson, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Tickets for the show will be available at the door for $2.00.

Lake Geneva Schools is participating in the School Resource Officers of Walworth County Food Drive for the Walworth County Food Pantry. Please bring food donations to the main offices of Badger High School, Lake Geneva Middle School, Eastview Elementary School, Star Center Elementary School, or Central-Denison Elementary School on April 8th - 12th, 2019. Each school will have a food drive bin onsite. Lake Geneva Schools Resource Officer, Kara Richardson, will collect school donations at the end of the school day on Friday, April 12th.

Lake Geneva Schools announces the opening of a 3-Year-Old Preschool, Buzzing Bees, for the 2019 - 2020 school year. Buzzing Bees Preschool was established to provide quality early academic readiness, build a strong base around social-emotional well being and create a culture that will help foster pleasure in learning to young children.

Sophia Liontas 5th grader from Star Center and Crete Slattery 8th grader from Lake Geneva Middle School (LGMS) were two of the 38 participants in the CESA 2 Regional competition on February 27 in Whitewater, Wisconsin. Read more for the results!

Students from area schools will participate in a Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) sanctioned District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival hosted at Lake Geneva Middle School on Saturday, March 2, 2019. During the festival, which is free and open to the public, students will perform vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios and small ensembles before an adjudicator.

Star Center Elementary School in the Lake Geneva J1 School District was nominated for the 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which recognizes the highest performing schools in the state. Star Center is one of only eight total nominees in the state of Wisconsin.

New school safety measures are being put in place in Lake Geneva Schools. Treat and Go Trauma kits will be in all classrooms and common areas. There will also be six additional Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at Badger High School and one in the District Administration Center. “School Safety is a key element of our Strategic Plan,” said Dr. James Gottinger, Superintendent of Lake Geneva Schools. “We are investing in safety and training our staff to be prepared.”

Students in grades 3-8 participated in a project sponsored by the Southern Lakes Advanced Learners Network called the Southern Lakes Anthology. Students were asked to produce a written or art piece related to the theme, "Not Always Black and White" Thirty pieces were selected to be part of our Lake Geneva District Anthology booklets.

We are proud to report that The Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District’s schools have earned a five-star rating, the State’s highest achievement mark, based on the 2017-2018 Wisconsin Student Assessment System (WSAS) results. Lake Geneva Schools was recently notified that Lake Geneva Joint #1 School District Significantly Exceeds Expectations and Lake Geneva-Genoa City Union (Badger) High School District Meets Expectations on the 2017- 2018 Accountability Report Cards issued in November 2018 by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction or DPI.

Lake Geneva Schools and Badger High School in cooperation with the Lake Geneva Police Department have a suspect in custody for the written threat found in a restroom at Badger High School on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, that resulted in an early dismissal at Badger High School and the Lake Geneva Middle School. The school district will take appropriate disciplinary action up to and including possible expulsion.

Badger High School and Lake Geneva Middle School Families, This message is to update you on the incidents of Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Badger High School has received numerous reports that there has been a threat made against the school. School officials in cooperation with Law Enforcement have been addressing these concerns and we have no reason to believe there is a credible threat against the school. We thank everyone for reporting what they have heard or seen as this has been helpful in investigating the concern.

Due to a new threat at Badger High School unrelated to incidents this morning, Badger High School and Lake Geneva Middle School will be dismissing all high school and middle school students early. Dismissal will be 2:15 p.m. for Badger High School and 2:30 p.m. for Lake Geneva Middle School. Buses will transport student’s home. All after school activities are canceled at both Badger and LGMS. School officials are working in cooperation with local Law Enforcement. All students are asked to leave school grounds immediately following dismissal. We thank everyone for their cooperation.

Lake Geneva Schools has been awarded a second Wisconsin Department of Justice School Safety Grant for $188,616. In June, Lake Geneva Schools received their first grant of $110,192.

The Walworth County Health Department is working with Lake Geneva School District to inform you that there is a confirmed case of Pertussis “whooping cough” at Star Center Elementary. There is a probable case at Badger High School and Central Denison Elementary School. The Lake Geneva School District and the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin are partnering together to offer a parent support group for parents/guardians of children ages 3-21 who have either been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or receive special education services at school under an Educational Autism label.

Lake Geneva Schools have been awarded a $110,192.38 grant to improve school safety. On June 28, 2018, Attorney General Brad Schimel announced Lake Geneva Schools was awarded the grant through the Wisconsin Department of Justice School Safety Grant program, administered by DOJ’s Office of School Safety. As of today, 239 total grants have been awarded out of the 735 requests.

Jt. 1 and Badger administrators and staff took part in an introduction to KIDS Lab, a new Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) curriculum being offered to schools by Gateway Technical College. As part of this pilot program, Jt. 1 will receive $10,000 in exciting classroom resources including three 3D printers and Rockenbok Mobile STEM Labs. Teachers will participate in training over the summer.

The students selected for the Lake Geneva District Anthology were honored at a reception on April 25 for their amazing artwork, prose, poetry, and illustrated writing pieces.

Eastview Elementary School and Star Center Elementary School were two of 135 public schools in the state to earn a Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition Awards for the 2017-18 school year from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The award highlights schools that have demonstrated success in educating students from low-income families.

Congratulations to the following Lake Geneva 7th & 8th Graders, Andrea Mendez, Aidan Francois, Bradley Lyon, Josh Schooley, Dominic Alonzo, Demetrius Farmakis, Katie Doane, and Zach Blasiman, who took first place at the Regional Math Meet in Whitewater.

Dr. James Gottinger received a commendation today from Gateway Technical College. The certificate acknowledges that in the 2016-2017 school year, 629 Badger High School students saved $263,277.90 in free college tuition through dual enrollment in Badger and Gateway.

In response to misinformation released by the Lake Geneva Regional News, Badger High School would like to address the events of March 14, 2018. Badger students today walked out of their classes at 10:00 a.m. and into the main gym in a show of support for the National Walkout. The 17-minute event was led by a small group of Badger students who had previously approached administration about the safest way to convene.

The Georgia Rae Family Band will be performing a FREE concert in Lake Geneva at the Lake Geneva Middle School on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. The group will be performing alone, as well as, with the Lake Geneva Schools 4th – 8th Grade Orchestra Students.
